Well, Quakecon 2009 has officially ended and FNFF.net had an amazing time! DFragmentor won a $5000 computer as well as quite a few other prizes, we all walked away with tons of SHIIIRRRTTTSSS, and we have plenty of memories and friendships to take away with us.
The Gaylord Texan, Resort and Hotel, our home away from home and the landing place for Quakecon 2009, has been an amazing location both for the con and for the FNFF.net group.
The sponsors really stepped up this year, especially AMD, with well over $50k in prizes!
Some of the highlights were the Nvidia presentation where attendants could win prizes for doing crazy things such as digging for strawberries in a tub of Vaseline, eating bugs and worms or, in the case of DFragmentor, waxing your chest on stage. The PC Perspective work shop was another amazing show where around 20 AMD CPU's were handed out along with tons of other prizes. PC Perspective is a website for hardware and software reviews where our good friend Stratus (who used to co-run Academy Gamers) works.
The BYOC was amazing! With over 2000 gamers on one network at one time, you run into some pretty crazy things. The IRC was full of people chatting with over 200 people in the main chat room throughout the event, the DC++ server had over 1100 people signed in and sharing over 400 TB and there were giant Bawls towers all over the place.
This year was the largest for Quakecon to date and they expect to grow far into the future and we look forward to joining them again next year.
We are saddened to see it all end for another year and are not looking forward to the drive back to Colorado, but have plenty of great memories and prizes to bring along as well as next year to look forward to. Please check out our pictures page to see some pictures from the trip.
For those of you that havn't heard about The Wax'n'Snacks, here is the video of DFragmentor winning a $5000 computer, 3D samsung monitor, Nvidia Nvision 3d galsses and a Zune HD by being the hairiest guy at quakecon and then getting his entire chest waxed! The snacks part of Wax'n'Snacks is we sat in the C7 section and became the place to get all kinds of snacks! We were also featured on someones documentary. If they find this here, please contact us!
